This is part 2 of the creation of a steampunk yahoo widget - Creating
the photoshop image.
So, what did I do to create the image below? I took a screen capture of
the WOTW game and cropped around the steampunk timepiece using
Photoshop. Then I removed the background and copied the 'clock' for use
as the bottom layer, upon which I layered on the bits on bobs to form
the final image. I started with the wood surround, a burr walnut image
was used as the background and was given a pillow emboss. Then cut a few
holes of the right size.
The numbers and text are the engravers MT font on a white background
with a gradient and an interior shadow. The face is from a unique
digital display on a traditional face. The original coil was taken from
a photograph but has since been replaced by a new heater coil. The
pendulum is a photo from an original but everything else on the image
was hand-made.
The little brass screws are embossed so they 'sit' well. Plenty of
shadow applied liberally, gradient on all circular or round pieces. A
couple of shiny valves were added to give it more of a technological
look to match its time machine credentials.
Changed the design from the original in only three major places, the
coil, the clock face and the box below. This box has been modified so
that it has a second and lower slider bar upon which the slider can
realistically move. The grommet has been moved to a new backshelf below
the pendulum and this will accommodate a new red/blue cable that will
enter straight in rather than in a curved fashion as per the original.
Everything has been named appropriately and grouped into layer sets so
that hopefully the photoshop conversion tool will pick up the various
parts and assemblies.
Here is the next version, improved, I hope you will see the difference.
