Sisoft Sandra 2011 difficult to use- prefer the 2004 version

Having some system crashes recently so I tried digging out my old tools
and tried getting some new ones to try and diagnose what is happening to
both my laptop and my desktop, both occasionally falling over in a heap.

Installed the latest (free) version of Sisoft Sandra (2011) tried to use
it but had to remove it as tyhe user interface was useless in comparison
to my old trusty 2004 version. The icons are horrid, difficult to
identify what they do, the benchmark output jumps about making it near
impossible to see what is going on.

I removed it immediately and went back to 2004 with a plainer but
superior interface. Still don't know what is wrong with my system but I
initially suspected it was a GPU problem butnow I am leaning to a memory
problem. Tried upgrading/downgrading the GPU drivers to no avail,
reseating all boards cables &c but during image intensive processing the
system hangs.

Running prime95 in torture mode testing both cpus and L2 caches only
does not cause much of a problem, however running a test on both of them
them in combination with some memory tests causes a crash pretty quickly
every time. Strangely enough running the same test on each cpu singly
does not seem to cause a crash so does it indicate a chipset problem?
Don't know. I am going to carry out an overnight stress test using the
windows memory diagnostic utility and then perhaps memtest86.
