I have some ideas for some additional Steampunk Widgets.
1. Application launcher might be less intersting to people than a system
monitor. It could be steampunkified fairly well for the major apps. but
the others will necessarily need to be listed as text. I need to think
about the interface. The app. launcher would be nice one for me as I
hate the windows start menu interface.
2. System monitor - CPU& memory usage/disc i/o rates &
queues/temperatures/mic. levels There a plenty of those sort of things
around already. Though I am leaning towards it as it could be
steampunkified fairly well. I need to think about the interface. If I
can make it as unique as the clock then it would be attractive to some.
3. The google map functionality would provide a fun widget using a
steampunk-like set of airship controls to move around the countryside,
the google map scrolling slowly past. Daft but fun. Might even be able
to bomb places you don't like!
4. A simple image widget that displays images on the desktop,
transparent with no background or framing, one which allows the image to
be skewed as if dropped onto the desktop? I imagine a multiple instance
display of one or more small images complete with drawing pins as if to
secure them to the desktop. This one could not be too hard I feel. I
could also intersperse the user's images with the occasional image of my
own sourced from a web source?
5. The event monitor idea is gone, I don't like it. I was originally
thinking of doing a system event viewer but that may be difficult being
that the api calls are for C++, they are also different for XP and
windows 7 and would result in a operating system-specific widget (and
also because it is more than just a tadge dull)
These are just a few ides for my next steampunk yahoo widget. I may also
think of creating a native windows 7 gadget.
