Lightquick Web Design - High Quality, Low Cost

LightQuick Web Design - Latest News

We are just in the process of creating a new CMS site for The Bear at Home Inn at North Moreton. The site is built using Joomla 1.5 featuring a warm and welcoming style adopted from the original HTML site. The new site is a wide screen format with two simple to navigate menus. The site aims to be as fun a place to be as the pub itself.

More Moving Joomla static content into categories PDF Print
Tuesday, 07 September 2010

Joomla 1.0 was pretty poor by not allowing you to move content from
static content to a content category by default. Once you've created
loads of static content and you realise you want to categorise a chunk
of it then you're stuffed!

Previously, the only way I knew of doing it was to go into myPHPadmin
and look up the table joscontent and change the secid and catids. This
was painful and inelegant.

I have made some changes to some core Joomla files that will allow you
to move content from within static content into other joomla content
categories. It is not an installable zipfile, just unzip the files and
copy them into the correct folder.

These are the amended files:

admin.typedcontent.html.php
admin.typedcontent.php
toolbar.typedcontent.html.php
toolbar.typedcontent.php

The files should go here:

/public_html/administrator/components/com_typedcontent

It is not an installable zipfile, just unzip the files and copy them
into the correct folder.

You can get the zip file here:
http://lightquick.co.uk/jdownloads/move-joomla-static-content-into-categories.html

This will add a "move" icon to the static content page. Something always
missing from Joomla 1.0.15 that has now been provided at last. I use it
on all my joomla 1.0.15 sites.

The change causes one (very) small issue. The content is moved
successfully but if you have already created a menu link to the content
then the joomla menu system still thinks the content is static. When a
joomla menu item is created it sets a type being "content_typed" in
jos_menu for static content.

The result of this is that if you use the menu manager and list the menu
items, on the right there are a set of links to the actual content. The
content is listed as still being static as it is checking it's own table
rather than checking the content. This appears to be the only place this
happens and it does not appear to be a problem.
