This is the Steampunk Orrery widget MkI - the old version kept here for continuity.

There is a new version out now that provides much more functionality - get it here .

What does this widget do? well, it provides a daily memorandum function via a truly steampunk interface. Select a date via the calendar ring and click the date shown and it will allow you to enter a memo or reminder. You can use the ring to select future or past memos and whilst you are doing so the orrery will allow you to reflect on the passage of time and the true nature of this force that controls our lives. The calendar ring rotates by mouse control, the date displays according to ring position. The inner earth and moon rotate, the moon around the earth. The earth rotates around the central glow, roughly following the track of the window circular frame. The inner wheel with lots of bolts, counter-rotates as the main calendar ring rotates. The widget is fully resizable for your desktop. Please let me know what you think of my orrery/calendar. If you like it, then feel free to leave a comment below.

The original Yahoo widget orrery for Windows/Macs has lots of functionality all of it written in javascript - The second version was adapted to run on xwidgets on windows. Next was the rainmeter version - our first rainmeter widget also for Windows. The third is the Linux KDE plasmoid here for Linux/KDE. Each version is slightly different adding/modifying functionality. Running the widget in a javascript engine frees it from only running within the browser, you will now be able to run on your Windows/Linux/Mac desktop as long as you have an engine installed.

You will, of course, need Yahoo widgets for this widget to run. Get Yahoo widgets here.

This widget works with Windows XP SP3, it has been tested on Vista, Windows 7 /8 and Mac Os/X so it should work on these with no problems.

Very Humble, in fact. I don't really expect that you'll consider this.
First of all, I love your widgets, and I'm in awe of your skills. I wish I had a tenth of your talents...
But, I've been looking high and low for a moon phase indicator, and I think the Steampunk Orrery would be a fantastic place to include such a function. Is there any chance of an inclusion of such a feature, either in the Orrery, or perhaps the clock/calander widget?

I'm curios about the sunrise/sunset feature: how does it work? What is it supposed to show? I've put in the coordinates of my home town and nothing changed on the widget. Is the input supposed to contain the symbols for degrees, minutes...etc or not?

hello, I would like first of all apologize for my English, Spanish and although I am well I can hardly make myself understood. I'm trying to say with the lunar phases is to add a dial, to report on the lunar phase that corresponds to that date.http://www.1stopretroshop.com/photos/n318463.jpg

need not be like this, with it being a circular dial with a moon inside indicating the phase may be sufficient, this is a more ornate version

I am working on the new widget now, the preferences and memo screen will be steampunked and sounds will be added. Those are already planned for the next version.

I am not sure I understand what you mean with regard to the lunar phases. See if you can do a drawing to explain.

congratulations on the widget I have tested on windows 7 starter
and works perfectly with respect to the previous version is much mejor.si this could make a suggestion, would be the addition to the information already provides a window to the lunar phases, interchangeable skins (look rusty, patina bronze, etc.. .) and mechanical sounds to set the date. I have hope that my ideas will be useful to improve the widget

I have the steam Punk machines and will download this one too.

I would really appreciate if you could let me know when you have the finished one, so I can upgrade this calender too.

Thank you again ... I love to just sit and watch then whenever I fire up my computer, before I start using , and again when I have ended my session. I am addicted I think !!!!
