Freeway Open Source Ecommerce system is not dead...despite it lying in
the road quite still for over a year now, no trucks have run over it.
Searching for Freeway on the net shows very little and it really looks
like Freeway is stone dead, however, going to the old site redirects
you
to the new jentla site.
It looks like Freeway has been renamed Jentla 'e'. An extract from
their
site:
"Jentla E "Multimodal eCommerce" Jentla-e provides an Open Source
e-commerce platform. It allows businesses to sell products, as well as
a
wide range of services such as events, services and subscriptions.
Jentla E helps businesses manage their e-commerce needs with activities
such as time-based bookings, event ticketing and subscriptions. Jentla
also supports Customer Relationship Management functionality,
e-marketing and SMS marketing."

They also have a blog but I had to work hard to find it, it was buried
under the about us page and you can find a link on the left hand side,
then you have to trawl one by one throught the blog entries.
In February they said:
"The Freeway conversion of our eCommerce engine OpenFreeway to become
Jentla E (eCommerce) is going very well and should be ready in March.
We
already have a working version. We've split out lots of features like
Payment Gateways, Shipping and the major extensions, events,
subscriptions, donations and services as separate commercial modules
that will be sold online as GPL extensions"
I must say it seems strange the way that Freeway died or fizzled out
with little or no fanfare nor communication. Here it is again under a
different name. I initially started to get interested with it when it
first came out and watched the site for progress but it didn't feel
right... I had a few clients interested too but it did not feel really
ready for use on a live site. The forum was quiet and the releases
stopped coming. The integration was only partial in comparison to
Virtuemart.
Nevertheless, a fully integrated integrated version of the OS Commerce
ecommerce system would be very desirable. My single Freeway demo site
sits idle, attracting one or two visitors but it would be nice to
resurrect it with Jentla 'e'.
